Introduction
After enrolling on one of our workshops, delegates receive free and unlimited access to the Delegate Resource Centre. In 2017 EngPro took a decision to no longer print notes, as the modern delegate consumes information in different ways and physical notes were not being used effectively. Printing them costs money and has environmental impacts, so the Delegate Resource Centre was born.
Fact sheets
The previous (physical) notes were originally divided into topic relevant fact sheets. They were developed in line with modern wiki-style information to allow fast access to pertinent points. As they were now electronic, this presented opportunities to improve the depth of each fact sheet and link to relevant further reading, and other courses being run on topic. We were able to introduce case studies to help expand each point and demonstrate real practical use of the theoretical notes. These enriched documents are updated from time to time and give the delegates the chance to use during the course and refer in the future. They can also be downloaded for free and stored locally, or even printed for those that prefer tactile notes.
Toolkits and Case Studies
As part of the development of the notes the opportunity to develop the workshops themselves introduced a more modern approach to adult learning, where the delegate is immersed in ‘real-life’ type experiences. On several of our workshops we have developed delegate case studies that are sent ahead of the workshop and used to build the lessons into real examples that the delegates themselves work through. As an example, GS04, managing change; has a case study that looks at developing an engineering business, with different dynamics and characters - using this helps develop stakeholder mapping, staff engagement and a range of other techniques taught during the workshop - these case studies have always received high praise from delegates, and we are using them more often.
Alongside these Case Studies are a range of tools that can be downloaded to help the delegate ease taking the learning from the classroom into the real working environment. For example, during CS04, investigation skills; delegates have access to interview checklists, perishable evidence checklists, data protection guidelines and other tools. All designed to help the delegate accelerate the learning into the real world and improve the return on investment.
Presentation Materials
All the presentation materials that are displayed during the training are in the resource centre. For size management reasons some slides, and videos are removed, but the flow is identical to the presentation they will receive. This has proved helpful where projection size is limited, allowing delegates to follow the workshop on their personal IT.
Further reading
For each workshop there is further reading indicated. This gives the delegates the opportunity to continue their professional development.
